Study on the Effects of Job Characteristics on Occupational Stress and Job Satisfaction in Opticians

Abstract
Purpose : This study intends to provide basic materials to efficiency improvement of management of optician`s shops and improve job satisfaction .

Methods : We did a survey of 106 opticians working in optician¡¯s shops. The data was analysed using the method of descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA to examine the effects of job characteristics and the subjects general characteristics including social status and occupational stress and job satisfaction.

Results : As to the job stress, the female tends to have higher stress than the male in terms of the glass processing, fitting and change of occupation. Younger ages, shorter career, lower position and lower payment were associated with higher value stress label in terms of refraction, glass processing, fitting and customer response. When it comes to the job satisfaction, the male tended to have higher satisfaction than the female in all cases. And showed highest satisfaction While higher ages, career, position, payment.

Conclusion : In this study, occupational stress showed highest level of stress in terms of the work hour. And job satisfaction showed highest level of problem solving ability and autonomy.
